Plaid AI · Yacht Club & Association Program

Executive report · scan of 2026-10-22

Where Southern California's yacht clubs lose time.

We reviewed the public website of every SCYA member club and scored each on six kinds of friction. This is what the association looks like as a whole, which clubs feel it most, and where the program lands first. Every number links to the club pages, which show the same findings club by club.

Six things the scan says

Figures exclude Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, which already runs the program and serves as the reference.

  1. Paying the club is where the time goes. Across 78 sites reviewed several pages deep, 53 offer some online payment publicly (24 through a third-party button such as PayPal or Venmo that reconciles outside the club's books), 15 likely take payments inside a club-management platform behind sign-in, 4 have a member sign-in with no payment visible publicly, and 6 show no payment path and no sign-in at all. In every case the treasurer still reconciles by hand; the gap is one ledger, not a pay button.
  2. Members can't act, only read. 30 sites have no RSVP or ticket path and 36 have no way to volunteer. 19 have no member login at all, so rosters and directories live in spreadsheets.
  3. Racing is visible but manual. 62 clubs show a racing program; 53 of them have no crew board, 23 publish no results page and 18 run on PDFs alone. 27 send entries to an external service, which means fees and results live off-site.
  4. Facilities are run on lists. 50 clubs have slips, moorings or dry storage, and 39 rent the venue, yet only 29 of the slip clubs offer any online booking path.
  5. The platform doesn't fix it. 11 different platforms are in use, from club-management vendors to page builders, and average friction is within one point across all of them. The vendors handle a roster; nobody handles the whole club.
  6. A visible minority is at risk. 12 sites have stopped updating, 7 are not built for phones, 4 are served over plain HTTP and 9 were unreachable, erroring or absent.

Recommended outreach

  1. Lead with payments. It is the top journey for half the clubs and the finance module is the lead recommendation for most Tier 1 pages. Open every conversation with the treasurer's reconciliation weekend.
  2. Go association by association. Orange Coast (13 clubs), Santa Barbara, Santa Monica Bay and San Diego (10 each) give a commodore a neighbour who has already signed. Start with the association whose Tier 1 clubs cluster.
  3. Use the two live hubs. PBYC Hub and SCYA Hub are the proof; every club page links to both.
  4. Re-scan quarterly. The scan is one command; movement in a club's score is the follow-up email.
